Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Kelly Neidig attended Penn State University. She graduated with a BA in Integrative Arts combining fine art and landscape architecture.

In 2005 Kelly decided she wanted to focus primarily on art. Taking a giant leap of faith, Neidig pulled out a map and chose to move to Portland.

Starting out in coffee shops and small spaces, Neidig continued to make contacts with the Portland art scene. In 2006 she began participating in Portland Open Studios and is a past president of the organization. In 2009 Neidig was invited to show her work in the exhibition Representing Abstraction at the Museum of Northwest Art in WA. In 2012 she was selected to participate in the 10th NW Biennial at the Tacoma Art Museum in WA. Kelly has received several awards and has her work in collection across the United States.

Kelly Neidig is an abstract painter who works from the memories of places she has lived and traveled. Her new work is inspired by a recent trip to Japan, in particular – a visit to Kyoto to see a 60 year retrospective of the art of Yayoi Kusama.

“In Japan I was very influenced by the art of Yayoi Kusama. I loved investigating her technique of layering lines, marks, and dots to create negative and positive space in her paintings." Neidig is fascinated with the the combination art and nature, and of ancient traditions and modern technology in Japan. Since that trip her signature lines of past works have morphed to more abstracted forms and their relation in space.
